Pig Latin Translator

Translate English to Pig Latin and back — the classic schoolyard secret language.

Convert English to Pig Latin: words starting with a consonant move the cluster to the end and add 'ay' (pig → igpay). Words starting with a vowel get 'way' (apple → appleway). The decoder reverses it heuristically.

Common use cases

Frequently asked questions

Why is decoding only approximate?
Pig Latin loses the exact length of the original consonant cluster — 'igpay' could come from 'pig', 'sip' or others. We assume the simplest case.
Are the rules standardised?
There are several variants. We use the most common: consonant cluster + 'ay', vowel-start + 'way'. Some traditions use just 'ay' for vowel-start.
Does it preserve punctuation?
Yes — only letter sequences are transformed. Punctuation, numbers and spaces pass through.
