About our ai tools tools

Unlike the rest of BestMint, the AI category genuinely calls a model — Google's Gemma — for the heavy lifting, because that's what these tasks fundamentally need. The three tools (Summarizer, Paraphraser and Translator) cover the most common everyday uses of generative AI for text, packaged as focused single-purpose UIs instead of an open-ended chat box.

The AI Text Summarizer takes any article, paper or long note and returns a concise summary in a chosen format: bullet points (skim-friendly), short paragraph (executive summary style) or one-line abstract. Paste up to ~30,000 characters per request — long enough for most blog posts, news articles and meeting transcripts. The AI Paraphraser rewrites text in a chosen tone (formal, casual, concise, friendly, playful) while preserving meaning, useful for emails, marketing copy and tightening prose. The AI Translator handles 40+ languages and tends to produce more idiom-aware output than dictionary-style translators, especially for longer sentences.

Privacy note: because these tools call Google's Gemma API, your input does leave your device for that single request. We don't log or persist the content beyond the request itself, but if you're handling truly sensitive material (health records, legal documents, internal corporate text), use the browser-only tools instead. Rate limits apply per IP to keep the service free for everyone.

Frequently asked questions

Is my input stored when I use the AI tools?
No. Your text is sent directly to Google's Gemma API for processing — we don't log or persist the content beyond the request. Note that this means the input briefly leaves your device, unlike our browser-only tools.
How long can my input be?
Up to roughly 30,000 characters per request. For longer documents, split them into sections of 3–5 minutes' reading length and summarise each, then summarise the summaries.
Are the AI tools really free?
Yes. We absorb the API cost and apply a per-IP rate limit (20 requests per minute) to keep the service free for everyone. No signup, no payment.
How does Gemma compare to GPT or Claude for these tasks?
Gemma is a smaller open model. For translation, summarization and paraphrasing of typical web content, the quality is comparable to commercial offerings. For complex reasoning or very specialised domains, frontier models from Anthropic or OpenAI will pull ahead — but for these focused tools, Gemma is a strong fit.
