Sitemap Validator

Check sitemap.xml for well-formed XML, urlset, loc, changefreq and priority.

Paste your sitemap.xml and get a pass/fail report: well-formed XML, correct urlset namespace, every <url> has <loc>, valid changefreq, priority in 0–1, and ISO-formatted lastmod. Plus a total URL count.

Common use cases

  • Sanity-check a sitemap before submitting to Search Console
  • Diagnose 'sitemap could not be read' errors from Google or Bing
  • Verify your CMS or generator is producing spec-compliant output
  • Spot common typos in changefreq values or out-of-range priorities

Frequently asked questions

What sitemap format does this support?
The standard sitemaps.org/0.9 protocol (the urlset format). Sitemap index files and image/video extensions aren't deeply validated, but they won't crash the parser.
Why does Google say my sitemap is invalid even though this passes?
Google also checks that URLs return 200 and aren't blocked by robots.txt — neither of which we can test in your browser. Use this as a structural pre-flight check.
