Image Pixelator
Pixelate any image with adjustable block size for retro or censoring effects.
Pixelate images by downscaling to a small canvas and re-upscaling with image smoothing disabled, producing crisp Minecraft-style blocks. Block size adjusts from 4 to 64 pixels. Great for retro art and quick censoring of faces or text.
Common use cases
- Censor faces and license plates with a chunky pixel mosaic
- Create retro 8-bit-style versions of icons and avatars
- Generate low-fi placeholder thumbnails for image grids
- Pixelate logos for chiptune-themed marketing material
Frequently asked questions
Is pixelation reversible?▾
No — once you've thrown away the high-frequency detail by downsampling, it's gone. Pixelation is a destructive censor.
Why does the output look pixel-sharp?▾
We disable canvas smoothing during the upscale step (imageSmoothingEnabled = false) so the blocks stay crisp instead of bleeding into one another.
What block size hides faces best?▾
16–32 px on a 1080p image typically renders facial features unrecognizable while keeping the rest of the photo readable.
